Public Participation

"Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves."

-- Thomas Jefferson (letter to Edward Carrington, 16 January 1787)

Tom was always a bit patronizing and a founding member of the"Do as I Say, Not as I Do" Club, but man could he nail a truth.

Thomas Jefferson was right and we have become inattentive citizens. But why? One of the main reasons is that this council has moved ahead on THEIR agenda and listens to no one. I think many people have been so hurt and attacked that they have had to retreat and heal.

But, that being said, oversight is so important. The citizens of Gray are being taken especially on the Fire and Rescue Dispatch bids. How can the Council hold others to the three bid approach when they ignore that rule for themselves? Service to the community means nothing to them.

I applaud the Public Safety Committee for coming up with an innovative way to preserve the type of service that this community is used to. It would also have been a way to assist other communities and to keep the dispatch local.

The council certainly did not take all factor into consideration.

As for online fire permits, that is ridiculous. Is the visual basic fairy going to take into consideration the weather conditions that determine whether or not it is safe to burn?

What a mess three people can make of a town in two years.

Did you read the pompous [deleted] letter from Clifford Foster in today's Gray News? Now we see where Gary gets his holier than thou attitude. That acorn [wingnut] did not fall far from the tree.

How about a little bit more substance than just the wingnut comment? What did Cliff say that offended you so much? Hey do me a favor and don't put me in a position to have to edit your comments again.

Thanks.
